“The new role brings with it immense responsibilities and opportunities too,” said Mehta, who was previously the government’s panel counsel. “As a senior panel counsel, I would have to lead arguments in those matters on behalf of the concerned central government department. Till now, mostly the matters assigned to me were that of an advocate-on-record, which required a separate set of skillsets.”

Mehta has been enrolled as the panel counsel before the Bombay High Court for the past seven years. He represented the Serious Fraud Investigation Office, National Financial Reporting Authority, Securities and Exchange Board of India, Central Bureau of Investigation, Directorate of Enforcement, and other important departments before courts and tribunals in Mumbai.

Mehta has been associated with various central ministries and authorities advising and standing for them before courts and tribunals on matters involving complex and intricate questions of law.

With around 15 years of experience at the bar, Mehta focuses on commercial litigation, insolvency and bankruptcy, banking and finance litigation, white-collar crime and real estate litigation.
