Luthra and Luthra assist Japanese steelmaker on CCI approval

Luthra and Luthra Law Offices has assisted Sanyo Special Steel to secure approval from the Competition Commission of India to acquire a 15.43% shareholding in Sanyo Special Steel Manufacturing India (SSMI) from joint venture partner Mitsui & Co.

Partner GR Bhatia and partner designate Arjun Nihal Singh led the Luthra and Luthra team with the assistance of associates Manav Gupta, Sanyam Juneja and Toshika Soni.

Sanyo Special Steel, based in Japan, manufactures and sells steel products worldwide. The company, part of the Nippon Steel Corporation Group, has manufacturing hubs in various parts of Europe and India.

SSMI is a joint venture set up in September 2012 between majority shareholder Mahindra & Mahindra and Sanyo Special Steel and Mitsui & Co. In March 2019, Sanyo Special Steel became a majority shareholder in SSMI.
