The Federation of Indian Corporate Lawyers (FICL) will organise its First Corporate Lawyers Summit 2022 on 27 May at Hotel Taj Palace, New Delhi, with the theme of “The new normal – challenges and opportunities for the corporate lawyers in the covid era and way forward”.

Rohan Sharma, FICL’s director of administration in New Delhi, said the summit would focus on how general counsel could improve business value beyond managing risk, leading with impact and what should be on their agendas.

“The changes to the legal ecosystem in India as well as across the globe in the past two years have been profound and deeply impacted by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic,” said Sharma. “General counsel and in-house lawyers would need to adjust existing or introduce new measures to keep dealing when fourth or fifth wave outbreaks may occur.”

Sharma added that video conferencing, virtual conferences or hearings, electronic document sharing, and e-filings have now become the new normal along with a shift to remote or hybrid work environments. In-house legal departments must plan to invest in new legal technology solutions as a result of this change.

“The summit will provide opportunities to interact with the best minds in the legal industry on how they manage the transitioning of their legal teams in the present constant innovation environment and navigate these transitions while delivering positive outcomes for their businesses,” said Sharma. “This one-day event will equip in-house lawyers with the necessary knowledge and strategies to prepare for the uncertain year ahead.”

The summit is expected to have delegates from top Indian companies including Accenture, GAIL India, Indian Oil, Taj Group of Hotels, Hindustan Petroleum, RITES, Hindustan Coca Cola, SAIL, Indraprastha Gas, GMR, Hindustan Times Media, Bharat Petroleum, Hero Motocorp, CK Birla Group, Fortum, and EXL.
