The In-House Counsel Forum (IHCF), the oldest such association in South Korea, signed a memorandum of understanding with the newly founded Korea Mediation Institute (KMI) on 2 July 2026.

The KMI aims to raise awareness on the benefits of mediation and improve expertise in corporate dispute resolution.

“Through this collaboration with the KMI, our goal is to enhance the practical expertise of in-house counsel and legal professionals, ensuring that mediation becomes an active and viable tool for dispute resolution in the business environment,” Won-Young Jung, the president of the IHCF, told Asia Business Law Journal.

Under the agreement, the IHCF will promote mediation-related events that the KMI hosts and supports, encouraging member participation and sharing practical insights from an in-house counsel perspective.

Concurrently, the KMI intends to leverage its network of mediators, expert instructors and practitioners to provide IHCF members with professional development opportunities in mediation.

“The KMI will work closely with the IHCF to promote more active use of mediation in preventing and effectively resolving disputes within corporate settings,” Yong-Ho Moon, president of the KMI and a senior counsel at Shin & Kim, said.

Established in April 2026, the KMI is South Korea’s first professional association for mediators, which aims to professionalise the field and expand the use of mediation services.
