Yulchon has boosted its mergers and acquisitions bench by onboarding four new partners from Yoon & Yang in Seoul, with the latter’s M&A team head among the quartet.

Sung-Jin Kim, who was most recently a partner heading Yoon & Yang’s M&A team, had previously practised as a partner at Yulchon before his move to Yoon & Yang in 2014. He has advised on some of the largest corporate M&A transactions involving South Korean companies, including the USD1.4 billion acquisition of Asiana Airlines by Korean Air.

Young Su Shin, co-head of Yulchon’s corporate and finance practice, said “With extensive advisory experience spanning industries such as IT, manufacturing, finance, and healthcare, he has garnered praise for accurately identifying clients’ needs and delivering solutions tailored to each industry.”

The three other hires are Kayoung Kim, Hyerim Kang and Junghwan Lee, who were also partners and core members of Yoon & Yang’s M&A team and had previously worked as associates at Yulchon, Asia Business Law Journal has learned.

Kayoung Kim is one of the four new partners who has been active in domestic and cross-border M&A deals involving key South Korean industry players in recent years. Such transactions include advising on SK Ecoplant’s takeover of waste processing companies Daewon Green Energy and Saehan Entertainment, and SKS Private Equity’s acquisition of US-based public company Bloom Energy Corporation’s shares.
