Trilegal assisted GE India Energy Investments in acquiring a 49% stake in Gujarat-based wind turbine firm Morjar Windfarm Development.

The GE unit acquired the stake in Morjar Windfarm from Continuum Green Energy India, which will retain the remaining majority stake. Continuum is majority owned by a global infrastructure fund managed by Morgan Stanley Infrastructure.

The Trilegal team, led by partners Vaibhav Kothari, Nayantara Nag and Rahul Arora, was the legal counsel for GE India Energy Investments. Other team members who assisted in the deal were counsels Hema Priyadarshini Patnaik and Riyaz Bhagat, senior associates Anirudh Banga, Kriti Tuteja and Ruhani Khanna, and associate Pranav Butalia.

GE conducted the acquisition through its GE Energy Financial Services. GE has invested extensively in this sector in India, acquiring more than 1GW of renewable energy projects across various states, including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat.

The Morjar wind power generation project is developing a 148.5MW facility, which will comprise 55 units of GE Renewable Energy’s 2.7MW onshore wind turbines in Kutch, Gujarat.
