Shin & Kim has bolstered its international arbitration capability with the hire of new partner Brandon (Hyung-Sik) Bang, previously a partner and co-head of international arbitration at Bae, Kim & Lee.

Bang joined on 11 March this year and is a senior member of the firm’s international dispute resolution practice, Shin & Kim told Asia Business Law Journal.

Dually qualified in New Zealand and New York, Bang specialises in international arbitration, covering various industries and sectors including construction, intellectual property, mergers and acquisitions, licensing and reinsurance.

He began his legal career as a solicitor at New Zealand law firm Chapman Tripp in 2007, and later spent nine years practicing as an associate at Shearman & Sterling’s international arbitration group in Singapore before moving to Bae, Kim & Lee in 2020.

Over the years, he has conducted proceedings under different arbitration rules, including those of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre and the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre. In an arbitration case at Bae, Kim & Lee, Bang represented a French-German consortium in a EUR6 billion (USD6.4 billion) dispute against a Finnish utility company in an International Chamber of Commerce arbitration in Stockholm.
