Yuto Matsumura, a managing partner of Mori Hamada & Matsumoto, has left one of Japan’s largest law firms to join Hitachi as chief legal officer and general counsel.

Matsumura, who has also been appointed as a vice president and an executive officer, officially assumed his new roles at Hitachi on 1 April this year, says a Hitachi press release.

Mori Hamada has confirmed with Asia Business Law Journal via email that Matsumura has left the firm.

The Tokyo-based lawyer began his legal career in 1998 at Mori Sogo Law Offices, which merged with Hamada & Matsumoto in 2002 to form Mori Hamada & Matsumoto. He became a partner at the Tokyo-based firm in 2005 and was promoted to managing partner in 2015.
