The Intelligence report titled Casting a wider net in your December/January issue made for interesting reading, particularly as a result of your broad coverage of the cultural and linguistic issues. The additional focus on second-tier cities made the report comprehensive.
Historically, south Indians played a prominent role in the development of India’s legislative framework. However, the southern states did not see much economic development in the two or three decades after independence.
This changed following the country’s economic liberalization, after which southern states have matched and in many a cases outperformed the northern states by a wide margin in terms of foreign direct investment, mortality rates and adult literacy, to name just a few benchmarks.
