South Korean law firm LIN has strengthened its banking and finance practice with the appointment of Jin Sung Jun as a partner.
Jun joins the firm following a 21-year tenure at Samsung Card, where he most recently served as general counsel.
“Amid an AI storm threatening the legal sector, the reality is that the demand is focusing only for A-grade experts — who possess experience with regulatory authorities as well as the law and can respond to the raw legal demands arising from corporate field operations — rather than mediocre B-grade talent,” Sung Han Jun, a partner and member of the managing committee at LIN, told Asia Business Law Journal.
Sung Han Jun said Jin Sung Jun should be classed among the “A-grade experts” as he had developed deep expertise in financial regulations during his longstanding tenure at Samsung Card.
Jin Sung Jun also brought extensive experience navigating regulatory authorities, after frequently handling matters involving the Financial Services Commission, the Financial Supervisory Service, the Korea Exchange and the Korea Fair Trade Commission, he said.
Jin Sung Jun’s notable experience includes advising on new financial products, such as debt cancellation, debt suspension and international prepaid cards. He also systematised Samsung Card’s internal control mechanisms and upgraded its anti-money laundering framework as their chief compliance officer.
Jin Sung Jun has been a member of the Korean Bar since 2004.
