L&S executive partner leaves
J Sagar Associates has hired Shafaq Uraizee Sapre as a partner in the firm’s Mumbai office. Sapre joins from Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan, where she was an executive partner and head of corporate practice for west and south India.
Sapre will be working with corporate partner Sandeep Mehta, who has been with the firm since 2008. She specializes in M&A, joint ventures (JV) and private equity investments, and has 18 years of experience. She has also worked as the head of the JV practice at Nishith Desai Associates, and as a partner at Bharucha & Partners.
HSA hires banking partner
HSA Advocates has inducted Sharmil Bhushan as a partner in the Mumbai office. Bhushan joins from Khaitan Legal Associates and she focuses on financial services and insurance.
She has more than 14 years of experience, and has advised clients on various aspects of banking and finance such as structuring and fund formation, inbound and outbound investments, securities market, strategic alliances, joint ventures, corporate and debt restructuring, resolution of distressed assets, enforcement of security, insolvency proceedings, general corporate and commercial transactions. Bhushan also previously worked with Essel Finance as their head of legal and compliance.
Kay Legal goes to Delhi, Pune
Mumbai firm Kay Legal & Associates has expanded to New Delhi and Pune, where it has opened offices that will be manned by two partners. Kaushik Kute will work in Pune for the firm’s corporate practice, while Hemant Majani will be based in New Delhi to head the litigation practice.
Kay Legal was co-founded by Amit Karkhanis and Shivani Shah in 2011. The firm had merged with Delhi-based Gravitas Legal in October 2017, but the merger ended in March last year. The firm specializes in legal matters affecting the medical and healthcare industry, and on intellectual property issues.
New Bangalore partner at Argus
Argus Partners has hired Suchita Ambadipudi as a partner in the firm’s Bengaluru office. Ambadipudi focuses on corporate law and has been working as an independent legal practitioner since May 2016. Prior to this, she worked at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas’ Bengaluru office in 2015. She began her career at the then Amarchand & Mangaldas in Mumbai in 2007.
“We are certain that she, together with Maneesha Kongovi, will drive the Bengaluru practice to greater heights,” said Argus managing partner Krishnava Dutt. Kongovi is a disputes partner who joined the firm in July 2019.
Veritas poaches Samvad partner
Her practice focuses on cross-border investments and acquisitions, joint ventures (financial and strategic) and business transfers. Roy has advised clients on foreign investments (inbound and outbound), entry strategies, joint ventures, technology collaborations and general corporate commercial laws.
