The Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks has announced that it has reconstructed 35,000 files that went missing from the Trade Marks Registry in April. More than 44,000 files were reported missing from the Trade Marks Registry’s offices in Ahmedabad, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai.
Of the missing files, 8,183 remain unaccounted for, but trademark owners have been assured that critical information pertaining to all the missing files (including those yet to be located) has been reconstructed. To help trademark owners recover their files, the controller general’s office has extended until 31 October the deadline to report details of lost trademark applications.
“The fact that the registry has taken some steps and miraculously found some missing files is certainly commendable,” said Archana Priyadarshini, an advocate at Selvam & Selvam in Chennai.
