A quartet of partners, comprised of Nie Yanping and Wang Bei in Shanghai, Beijing-based Fan Qingdong, and Wang Yu handling issues in both cities, has joined Jingtian & Gongcheng to beef up its legal affairs.

Wang Yu, who formerly served as a partner at AnJie Broad Law Firm and was selected by China Business Law Journal as one of the Rising Stars in 2021, focuses on areas such as investment, M&A, PE/VC, corporate and capital markets.

He has advised many private equity funds on domestic or cross-border equity investments, and exits to domestic and overseas targets. She has assisted corporate securities in handling contract disputes and has advised listed companies on the valuation adjustment mechanism and strike cases. Additionally, she has represented many universities in suspending co-operation with commercial entities and restructuring their affiliations.

Wang Bei is a specialist in labour law and employment, and is adept in a variety of areas such as legal compliance, employment planning and implementation, regulation, remuneration design, layoffs, executive incentives, and the protection of trade secrets.

Previously, Nie and Wang Bei were senior partners at Hiways Law Firm.

As a criminal law specialist, Fan worked as a prosecutor at the Anti-Corruption Bureau of the First Branch of the People’s Procuratorate of Beijing Municipality from 2010 to 2016, where he hosted and participated in more than 70 special cases involving the National Energy Administration, China Guodian Corporation, China Unicom, the Beijing Traffic Management Bureau, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and China South Industries Group.

Prior to Jingtian & Gongcheng, Fan practised at Zhong Wen Law Firm as an equity partner and has handled high-profile cases such as defending Jiang Yunming, the former supervisor of Industrial Bank, and the former vice president of Yingkou Coastal Bank, who was involved in a case with an amount of more than RMB24 billion.
