In-house lawyers from nine companies and a senior advocate foretell the challenges and opportunities that lie in store for India-focused general counsel
I hope that 2014 will herald a period of calm following the volatility that 2013 threw at us. The regulatory environment will remain dynamic as various sectors including telecom, infrastructure, banking, financial services and insurance are yet to reach stability in their respective cycles of maturity.
Notwithstanding the uncertainty of the 2014 general election, based on current indicators I expect economic growth to remain muted for the first half of 2014, but to start edging upwards later in the year.
The election of a stable government in 2014 will certainly boost investor sentiment and encourage greater inflows of foreign investment. The legal fraternity will have to stay up to date with new regulations in order to advise on the rush of new investment deals.
