The Advertising Standard Council of India (ACSI) has banned a series of deodorant advertisements that portray women in an “obscene” manner.
The advertisements depict a number of scenes in which women make sexual advances towards men after inhaling the scent of their deodorant. The channels which broadcast the advertisements were given five days to either take them off air or alter their content so that they do not offend TV audiences.
The brands affected by the ban include Addiction Deo, Axe and Wild Stone.
Prahlad Kakkar, a TV advertising director, told the Times of India: “I believe as a country, we find obscenity in everything … But in this case, I agree that some of the deodorant commercials are really in bad taste.”
