GEN Law Firm has added two partners James Ma and Charles Zhao to strengthen its intellectual property (IP) and disputes resolution practices.

Ma, who will be available in the Beijing and Shenzhen offices, is an IP specialist and a patent attorney. Previously, he was a partner at FenXun Partners and AnJie Law Firm (now renamed to AnJie Broad Law Firm), as well as having practised at Allen & Overy, JunHe and Lifang & Partners.

Ma advises on deals involving patents, trade secrets, technology licensing, trademarks and unfair competition, as well as IP issues in M&A cases. His previous clients have included many multinational companies such as GE, BMW and Panasonic, while recently his work has focused more on pharmaceutical IP protection and disputes over patent infringements.

Shanghai-based partner Zhao primarily acts on dispute resolution, corporate law and wealth management matters.

Before joining GEN, he was a partner at Yuanda China Law Firm.
