Behemoth firm’s new chief wants complete merger

The global board chairman of the newest and largest law firm in the world has said its final goal is to combine the firms Dacheng and Dentons completely after their groundbreaking alliance that follows the same structure as that of the King & Wood Mallesons merger.

Peng Xuefeng, the founder of Dacheng who is now chairman of the combined firm’s global board and its global advisory committee, told China Business Law Journal that the two firms will completely turn into one after a transitional period of independence, and pointed out that it is not co-operation but combination.

“Currently the two firms have their own independence, but they will turn into one new firm completely.” Peng said. “We are already one family.”

The announcement from the two firms of the news said the merger is the “first real combination” between a top Chinese law firm and an international law firm with an integrated service platform.
