Amit Kapur, a former joint managing partner at JSA, is moving to Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas after serving JSA for more than three decades.

Kapur confirmed to India Business Law Journal that he is joining Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas but said he was unable to comment further at this stage.

A prominent figure in India’s infrastructure and regulatory landscape, Kapur served as a senior partner at JSA before being elected joint managing partner in January 2019, a position he held for two terms until March 2025.

In an official statement, JSA’s joint managing partners Vivek Chandy and Amar Gupta, said: “We wish Amit success in his future endeavours. The firm has a mandatory retirement age of 65 years, which applies across all equity partners without exception.

“As Amit was due to retire soon, as per the firm’s foundational policy, we have a stellar team in place for the regulatory infrastructure practice in Delhi and Mumbai. They will continue to service our clients across the full spectrum of regulatory infrastructure matters. We thank Amit for his contribution to the firm.”

Kapur led the firm’s infrastructure and regulatory practice, advising governments, multilateral institutions, including the World Bank, the Public-Private Infrastructure Advisory Facility and the Asian Development Bank, sector regulators, and major corporate groups across energy, transport, communications and public infrastructure.

He has been involved in several landmark projects, including the privatisation of Delhi’s electricity distribution, metro rail projects in Delhi and Mumbai, and ultra-mega power projects.

Kapur was recently elected senior vice president of the Society of Indian Law Firms, reflecting his standing within the legal profession. He is one of six lawyers the Bar Council of India appointed to examine and recommend solutions to issues arising from the entry of foreign lawyers and law firms into the Indian legal market.

He also serves on the board of the National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT Foundation) and on the management committee and governing council of the CUTS Institute for Regulation and Competition.
