Two partners from Atlanta-based law firm Morris Manning & Martin have completed a “tech trek” in India. John Yates, chair of the firm’s technology group, and Jason D’Cruz, head of its Indus group, made the 11-day trip in February in order to strengthen the firm’s relationships with Indian technology companies and to promote Atlanta as a key point of contact between such companies and the US market.
Among their engagements, Yates and D’Cruz spoke on doing business in the US to the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce at the Oberoi Hotel in Bangalore; D’Cruz participated in a panel discussion on the global technology workforce at the iTechLaw’s fifth International Asian Conference in Gurgaon; and Yates participated in the NASSCOM India leadership forum.
Speaking shortly after their return, both lawyers highlighted the crucial role Indian legal advisers play for US companies seeking to enter the Indian market. D’Cruz said: “The US is not as heavily regulated as Europe and India, so it’s really important, if you’re looking to expand, to find the right strategic partner from the legal perspective over in India or Europe.”
