UK law firm Trowers & Hamlins has expanded the team at its newly opened Singapore office with the addition of energy and projects veteran Ignatius Hwang, a former managing partner of McDermott Will & Emery in the city-state.

The firm’s website states that Hwang is a consultant at the Singapore office, established earlier this year, and leads the firm’s Asian energy and infrastructure sector.

Abdulhaq Mohammed, head of Asia at Trowers & Hamlins, said: “I am delighted to welcome Ignatius as an integral part of our brand-new Singapore team. He has an exceptional track record and industry knowledge in the energy and infrastructure sector in this region, and I believe he will be a huge asset to us.”

The Singapore-based lawyer has more than 30 years of experience advising on energy, infrastructure and resources projects across the Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, having gained wide recognition for his work in the city-state’s public-private partnership projects.

Hwang was most recently founder and chairman of Garnet Energie, a sustainable energy developer focusing on the development of renewable energy projects in Asia. Between June 2023 and March this year, he also served as founder and managing partner of Magellan Law, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Prior to his roles at Garnet Energie and Magellan Law, Hwang practised as managing partner at the Singapore office of McDermott Will & Emery, which he joined in 2021 from Squire Patton Boggs where he had led the US firm’s office in the island state.

With Hwang’s addition, Trowers & Hamlins now has five lawyers in Singapore.
