A leadership transition at SNG & Partners has seen Amit Aggarwal promoted to managing partner of the firm’s corporate and non-contentious practice. The move is of added significance because it represents a non-family member stepping into a key leadership role at a traditionally family-run firm.

“It’s an incredible honour to be entrusted with such a huge opportunity,” said Aggarwal, who was previously a senior partner heading the firm’s corporate team. “Personally, this marks a significant milestone in my career, and I am eager to embrace the opportunities as well as the challenges that lie ahead.”

Tracing its origins back to 1962, SNG & Partners is a full-service law firm with 24 partners and around 100 lawyers. The firm recently launched a Japan desk to expand its offering to Japanese companies wanting to do business in India and Indian companies wanting to do business in Japan.

Aggarwal says he is ready to tackle the challenges of his new role, which include managing expectations among his colleagues and ensuring smoother and faster delivery of work. “I think we have quite a diverse pool of clients and, within that, the cross-sell opportunities could further be promoted to ensure that we leverage our existing relationships,” he told India Business Law Journal. “I hope to address these challenges by way of encouraging interdisciplinary teamwork, promoting knowledge-sharing, and nurturing talent within the firm.”

The firm’s founder and former managing partner, Rajesh Gupta, stays on in the capacity of founder and chairman, stepping back from operations and execution to focus on strategy and key relationships.

Meanwhile, Sanjay Gupta remains managing partner of the firm’s disputes practice, a position he has held since 2022.

Rajesh Gupta has high hopes for the transition, noting that in Aggarwal’s 20-plus years with SNG & Partners, he has always stood out as someone whose values have been aligned with those of the firm. “I wish him all the very best for this role and hope he propels SNG & Partners to newer heights,” he said.

SNG & Partners was advised on the reorganisation by Bithika Anand and Nipun Bhatiaa of Legal League Consulting, a management consultancy firm that focuses on the legal profession.
