Sumita Singh, a former partner at Singh & Associates, has launched her own law firm in Delhi. The new firm, Ascentialls Intellectual Property Services, is a full-service intellectual property boutique.
Speaking of her decision to start her own venture Singh told India Business Law Journal, “There were lots of people I knew, contacts that I had made over the years, who wanted to go to a specialized IP practice. There is this whole section of clients who are not comfortable going to general practice firms but prefer only IP-specialized firms, so that is the clientele that I’d like to and am tapping.”
The firm’s name, Ascentialls, is derived from the phrase “essential for your ascent”. Singh is the managing partner of the new firm and has been joined by two counsel, each with 10 to 12 years of litigation and arbitration experience, and two paralegals. While the firm is currently handling prosecution and litigation cases, Singh is keen to encourage her clients to consider alternative dispute resolution to a greater degree. She also hopes to establish relationships and collaborate with firms which lack a devoted IP practice or IP lawyers.
