Sims Metal Management, the world’s largest listed metals and electronics recycler, has made its first major step into Asia.
ASX- and NYSE-listed Sims, which claims to be one of the world’s most sustainable companies, announced its 20% strategic investment in a Chinese recycling company, Hong Kong-listed Chiho-Tiande Group, in January.
Baker & McKenzie advised Sims on the investment. Its team was led by Sydney partner David Holland and Hong Kong partners David Fleming and Dorothea Koo.
Holland said: “This deal has enabled Sims to increase its exposure to recycling markets in China, which is a major step for the company given the opportunities in the region.”
Baker & McKenzie had previously advised Sims on its NYSE listing and also in a number of material M&A transactions in both Australia and the United States.
