Shin & Kim has continued its global dispute resolution practice expansion by adding international arbitration specialists Robert Wachter and Sean Sung-woo Lim from Lee & Ko to the bench in Seoul.

“With the increasing number of cross-border legal disputes in various sectors, such as cross-border M&A, finance, construction, oil and gas, and energy due to globally high interest rates and geopolitical risks, Shin & Kim is expanding its international arbitration practice,” the Seoul-based firm said. The latest additions came about two months after Shin & Kim hired Brandon Hyung-sik Bang from Bae, Kim & Lee, where he practised as a partner and co-head of international arbitration.

Lim and Wachter had served as co-heads of the international arbitration team at Lee & Ko, and Shin & Kim was “aiming for June” as their official starting date, but it had not been confirmed yet, the firm told Asia Business Law Journal.

Wachter, who will be the co-head of Shin & Kim’s international dispute resolution group jointly with partner Young Suk Park, held the post of co-head of the international arbitration team at Lee & Ko for almost a year. He has also practised as an arbitrator and counsel in more than 100 international arbitration proceedings administered by institutions including the International Chamber of Commerce and the Singapore International Arbitration Centre.

Lim, on the other hand, began his career at Lee & Ko in 1989 and has over the years dealt with hundreds of large-scale international disputes in various industry sectors. He was also president of the Korean Council for International Arbitration and secretary general of the Asia Pacific Regional Arbitration Group.
