For the fifth year, the Singapore Corporate Counsel Associations (SCCA) has crowned the Singapore Chief Legal Officer (CLO) Awards winners on 15 December.
The virtual gala was hosted by the SCCA’s executive director, Mel Nirmala, and board member Stanley Park.
“The nominations that came through this year were strong contestants, and the top finalists in each category were close,” Nirmala told Asia Business Law Journal.
The awards were split into three categories for the top chief legal officer in three different categories: Singapore company or business; multinational company; and government or non-governmental organisation (NGO).
This year’s award panel of judges included Justice Chua Lee Ming (the Supreme Court of Singapore), Jean Chong (vice president of ethics and corporate social responsibility at ON Semiconductor), and Adrian Chan (vice chairman of the Singapore Institute of Directors, head of corporate department and senior partner at Lee & Lee).
The first Singapore company or business category award was given to Rose Kong, CLO at resource-based manufacturing company Royal Golden Eagle. The other nominees under this category were general counsel at AIA Singapore, Penny Khoo, and general counsel at Eastern Pacific Shipping, Adam Emilianou.
In the multinational company category, vice president of international legal and compliance at biopharma company MSD International, Chua Hwee Ping, was the winner among two other nominees, general counsel APAC at talent advisory and solutions company the Adecco Group, Carlos Estrada, and general counsel of commercial at mining corporation Rio Tinto, Peter Hopp.
In the final government or NGO category, the Ministry of Law’s director of legal aid, Lim Hui Min, was the winner. The other candidates were CLO for the Ministry of Finance, Louis Ng, and chief legal counsel of the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore, Trina Ha.
