Anglo-Australian mining group Rio Tinto has hired a team of lawyers in India in an attempt to reduce its legal costs. The diversified multinational has an agreement with legal services outsourcing firm CPA Global, which it expects will produce savings of up to 20% on its current £60 million (US$99 million) legal bill, according to TimesOnline.
The company has recruited 12 lawyers in Delhi to provide assistance on tasks such as reviewing documents and drafting contracts. CPA Global will act as an extension of Rio Tinto’s in-house legal team, allowing the company to focus on more complex tasks, TimesOnline reported.
Rio Tinto has 100 lawyers worldwide and uses law firms such as Linklaters and Baker & McKenzie for external advice.
