Singapore-based international dispute-focused law firm Providence Law Asia has expanded its restructuring and insolvency group with the hiring of Daniel Tan as a director and head of the practice. Tan previously practised at Singaporean law firm Shook Lin & Bok, where he served as a partner for more than five years.

Providence Law told Asia Business Law Journal that Tan would collaborate closely with director Kenny Lau, who would head the firm’s fraud and asset recovery practice while remaining integral to the restructuring and insolvency group, on high-value cross-border disputes.

“His [Tan] appointment reinforces our commitment to being the leading independent disputes practice in the region and significantly strengthens our bench strength in complex, high-stakes matters.”

Tan started the early part of his legal career at Shook Lin & Bok in the 2010s, and rejoined the firm as a partner in 2019 after practising as a senior associate at WongPartnership and group legal counsel at Standard Chartered Bank.

Admitted as a Supreme Court of Singapore’s advocate and solicitor, Tan regularly represents clients in both formal court-supervised and out-of-court restructurings, while also advising on corporate disputes and fraud, asset recovery and shareholder disputes and investigations.
