Linklaters has rehired its former China practice head, Betty Yap, to strengthen its China private equity practice. Yap left the firm in 2016 after 12 years. She was the China managing partner for Paul Weiss from 2019 until departure.

She will join as partner and global co-head of the financial sponsor group. Yap is known for handling strategic investments, cross-border M&A, special situation foreign direct transactions with Chinese investments, and joint ventures. Linklaters hopes she will reinforce its inbound and outbound investment practices in China.

Linklaters also rehired its former head of Asia financial regulation practice, Carl Fernandes, who has joined the firm’s London office. Fernandes was at Latham since he left Linklaters in 2018, and has more than 25 years of experience in advising financial services companies in London, Hong Kong and Australia.
