Ashurst has advised Taiwanese cable company Walsin Lihwa in a joint venture with Danish cable giant NKT HV Cables AB to manufacture the first subsea cable for offshore power in Taiwan.

NKT will provide the expertise and technical support for the construction, while Walsin will contribute capital. The technology being transferred from NKT is the latest one for the offshore power cable industry in Taiwan.

Ashurst’s team was led by its Asia head of corporate transactions Joshua Cole in Hong Kong, with the support of partner Michelle Phang and counsel Lisa Hui in Singapore, as well as senior associate Sean Ching and associates Kim Do Yeon and Jessica Leung in Hong Kong.

Partners Angie Ng in Singapore and Denis Fosselard in Brussels advised on the competition aspects, supported by senior associate Adelle Elhosni in Abu Dhabi.

Walsin Lihwa was established in 1966 and has been listed on the Taiwan stock exchange since 1972.

NKT is a leading supplier of power cable solutions, including high-voltage offshore cable systems that are developed and manufactured at NKT’s facilities in Europe. It possesses leading technologies in offshore wind farms and has extensive experience in submarine cable manufacturing, installation and maintenance.
