Nishimura & Asahi has hired Akihiko Paul Isohata, the former GC and executive officer of Japan Post, as counsel. He specialises in dispute resolution and risk management practice, especially in liability actions to financial institutes, loan recovery actions, real estate and property.

Isohata began his career as an attorney in 1995 at Ono Sogo Legal Profession Corporation, practising lender liability mass actions, loan recovery actions and complex real property dispute resolution representing leading Japanese banks and trust banks.

He later worked across various sustainable energy sectors and joined Japan Post Bank, a corporation held by conglomerate Japan Post Holdings, as the founding GC in 2011, before assuming his immediate past role at Japan Post, in 2019.

Nishimura & Asahi’s managing partner in Tokyo, Ryutaro Nakayama, said Isohata’s experience in retail banking and insurance would strengthen the professional scope of the firm’s practice.

“His experience with various law firms and corporations, in particular, as general counsel for large companies, will contribute to Nishimura & Asahi’s ability to handle clients properly and give due consideration to clients’ perspectives,” said Nakayama.
