Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas has hired Richa Roy as a partner in its insolvency and bankruptcy and policy practice in Mumbai. Roy recently worked as a graduate research fellow at the University of Oxford in the UK on a range of public policy projects in trade policy and banking regulation.

Roy was a part of the Bankruptcy Law Reform Committee where she drafted the corporate insolvency provisions of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016, and the corporate insolvency resolution process regulations. She has over 12 years of experience during which she worked at ICICI Bank as group head of legal, international banking and at AZB & Partners.



Vertices Partners has hired Sohini Mandal as an associate partner in the private equity and venture capital practice, and promoted senior associates Vishal Mehta and Vivek Jha to become associate partners. Mandal worked at NovoJuris from 2015 and was an associate partner at the firm.

Mehta joined Vertices in 2016 and works on corporate, private equity and venture capital matters. Prior to joining Vertices, he worked with ICICI Prudential Life Insurance and Mehta & Mehta Legal Advisory. Jha works in the same areas as Mehta and joined the firm in December 2018. Jha previously worked with Desai & Diwanji, Khaitan & Co, Vaish Associates and L&L Partners.



Several lawyers at the associate level have climbed the ranks at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co as part of the firm’s annual promotions. The firm promoted 21 lawyers to the principal associate level with the general corporate practice having eight promotions and the dispute resolution practice seeing six promotions.

Four other lawyers were promoted to the principal associate – designate level with two of the lawyers belonging to the general corporate practice. The firm also promoted 36 lawyers to the senior associate level. Of these, 16 lawyers belonged to the general corporate practice while 10 belonged to the dispute resolution practice. Overall, the New Delhi and Mumbai offices had 33 and 22 promotions respectively.



Argus Partners has hired Vinod Joseph as a partner in its corporate practice in Mumbai. Joseph previously headed the India legal team at Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), and was the general counsel at IDFC Alternatives prior to its acquisition by GIP.

Joseph has more than two decades of experience in private equity and corporate law.

“We have recently expanded the banking and finance and the disputes practice of the firm,” said Krishnava Dutt, managing partner at Argus Partners. “Expanding the corporate practice was a natural corollary.“I am delighted to have Vinod on board to deepen the firm’s corporate practice especially in the private equity and private investment funds space.”



Anay Banhatti has joined DMD Advocates as a partner in the taxation practice in Mumbai. He joins from Economic Laws Practice where he was also a partner. Banhatti’s focus has been indirect taxation, the goods and services tax, excise, service tax, sales tax, customs and foreign trade policy.

He has represented clients in litigation under various tax laws before adjudicatory authorities, appellate authorities, tribunals, high courts and the Supreme Court. He has also represented clients in direct tax litigation matters.
