Corruption, crime, nepotism and lawyers make good TV, according to NDTV India, which is producing a new mini-series Bombay Lawyers in a bid to draw attention to some of the country’s social ills.

NDTV India Managing Editor Dibang said “the show is in sync with our ideology and is part of our endeavour to present a socially responsible programme without any sensationalism and obscenity.”

The first episode aired 21 July and revolved around the imaginary law firm Roy & Raghavan, which stood out from its peers by taking a strong stance on working against injustice.

“It is a courtroom drama about real issues, people and conflicts, but in the emotional grammar of fiction. I am delighted to work with a channel which is socially conscious about contemporary issues,” the show’s writer Satyajit Bhatkal said.

Renowned theatre and television personalities like Meeta Vashisht, Murli Sharma, Rushad Rana, Jyoti Dogra and Kadambari Kadam play the roles of lawyers.
