Mishcon de Reya continues to expand its private client practice in Asia, with the appointment of Timothy Burns and Wei Zhang to support the firm’s US tax capabilities.

The duo, recognised leaders in US tax within Asia’s wealth management community, will be based in Hong Kong, collaborating closely with Mishcon de Reya’s Singapore office and its associated Hong Kong office, Karas So LLP.

Specialising in US tax and wealth planning for high-net-worth clients in Asia, Burns and Zhang bring extensive experience in cross-border trust and estate planning, advice on expatriation, pre-immigration to the US, investment in US real estate, and US federal tax compliance.

Zhang, a native Mandarin speaker with degrees in Chinese and US law, said, “With Mishcon de Reya’s platform and entrepreneurial approach, we will be able to offer our clients additional resources. We look forward to taking part in building the best private client team in Asia.”

Burns, who has been advising high-net-worth clients in Asia on US federal tax issues since relocating to Hong Kong in 2008, expressed excitement about working with the firm. “Mishcon de Reya is the premier private client law firm, and we look forward to working with our new colleagues in Hong Kong and Singapore to build the firm’s private client practice in Asia,” he said.

Their addition follows Mishcon de Reya’s recent expansion efforts in the region, including the arrival of corporate partner Si Wei Chua in the Singapore office earlier this month.
