King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) Yangtze River Delta IP Centre, in partnership with the Wuxi government, unveiled China’s first semiconductor intellectual property (IP) operation centre on 26 March in Jiangsu province.

The centre, approved by the China National Intellectual Property Administration, aims to accelerate the creation and industrialisation of high-value IP projects in the semiconductor industry, providing essential support for innovative advancements in Wuxi and Jiangsu.

KWM global chairman Wang Junfeng expected a complete business chain of IP services to be established in Wuxi and will expand across the region through its Yangtze River Delta IP Centre.

KWM’s new Wuxi office officially opened its doors on the same day.

A recent China Business Law Journal report on the 2023 Jiangsu Legal Market Survey indicates that the semiconductor industry is rapidly becoming a major player.

As one of the top 15 cities for the semiconductor industry, Wuxi, along with another two cities (Nanjing and Suzhou) in Jiangsu, are at the forefront of this burgeoning sector, with Wuxi recently outpacing Shenzhen for third place, behind only Shanghai and Beijing.
