King & Wood Mallesons has appointed Xiao Yong as the head of the firm’s China energy & resource practice in Hong Kong, Nicholas Molan as an international partner in Hong Kong, and Shen Guoyong as a partner in Shanghai and Hangzhou.

Both Xiao and Molan joined from Dechert, where they were partner and of counsel, respectively.

Prior to Dechert, Xiao was the head of the China practice at Vinson & Elkins. He had also worked as the Assistant Chair of the Foreign Investment Law Division of the Department of Treaty and Law of the Ministry of Foreign Economic Trade and Co-operation (MOFTEC). His practices focus on energy and natural resources, mining, oil and natural gas, and new energy. With extensive expertise and experience in the international market, he regularly counsels large SOEs, private enterprises and funds on a broad array of energy matters as well as multinational companies on China-related issues.

Molan has extensive experience in energy investment and M&A, asset sales, international project contracting, trading in natural gas and other commodities, and renewable energy. Over the past decade, he has been working in Hong Kong and Beijing, advising large Chinese enterprises on their strategic investments and M&A deals in the energy and infrastructure sectors.

Shen joined from Capital Equity Legal Group, where he was the deputy director of the firm. His practice focuses on criminal defence and risk prevention, and overlapping civil and criminal cases. He has handled hundreds of criminal cases covering a wide range of charges, including illegal fundraising, pyramid schemes, office crimes, fraud and securities violations.
