In a rare interview with a sitting judge, India Business Law Journal speaks to Justice Manmohan Singh of Delhi High Court about the challenges facing the judiciary and the prospects of introducing specialist benches

Justice Singh has been a high court judge for just over two months. He has almost three decades of experience as an intellectual property (IP) lawyer.

IBLJ: What is the main difference between practising law and judging cases?

SINGH: In practice you are serving the clients. Here you are serving the people. It’s an important job.

IBLJ: What are your thoughts on the speed of the courts?

SINGH: No doubt matters are not resolved as early as possible, but there is a reason. There is too much litigation. We have [a lack of] judges and courts. Because of this reason it takes time. The courts are trying their best to decide matters as early as possible.
