Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation has signed an agreement to acquire a stake in, and a memorandum of understanding for business cooperation with, Kotak Mahindra Bank. The Japanese bank will acquire approximately 4.5% of Kotak Mahindra through a Rs13.7 billion (US$296 million) preferential issue of 16.4 million shares.
