Jacqueline Aikin, the former senior legal counsel at Suzlon Energy, has joined Solomon & Co as an associate partner at Solomon & Co’s Pune office.
Managing partner Aaron Solomon said the firm is always keen to “infuse fresh blood in the organization as it keeps us abreast with new ideas, innovation of thought process, and drives us to never settle in our comfort zones”.
Aikin said her previous experience would allow her to approach the role as a business enabler. “As an in-house lawyer, one does a lot more than just provide legal advice,” she told India Business Law Journal.
“You become part of the key strategy team, learn how the business operates, understand its goals and its challenges, and also learn the dynamics of working with various stakeholders of projects. Your goal is in sync with that of the business. This makes you an enabler, not just to get the best results from a legal point of view, but also from a business point of view.”
Aikin has more than a decade of experience advising on big-ticket mergers and acquisitions, capital-raising and financing transactions. She has also advised and managed several cross-border commercial transactions and disputes.
The office’s location also played an important part in Aikin’s decision to join the firm. “Corporates are approaching firms in Mumbai and Delhi for their strategic legal work due to the non-availability of firms servicing such requirements in Pune,” she said. “There has been a pressing need for a law firm to address these needs in the city. When I got to know that Solomon & Co, was expanding with similar views in Pune, I felt it was the right firm to partner with.”
The core practice areas of the Pune office, set up last December, are corporate transactional and advisory services, litigation and dispute resolution, real estate and intellectual property. Aikin’s arrival takes the firm to a total of more than 60 lawyers including four partners and seven associate partners who work across Mumbai and Pune.
