KHAITAN OPENS IN SINGAPORE
Khaitan & Co announced the opening of its first international office at Ocean Financial Centre, Raffles Place, in Singapore on 26 August. The 800-lawyer firm said Karun Cariappa, who was previously at Simmons & Simmons and Morgan Lewis, had joined as a partner in Singapore.
Khaitan will operate as a foreign law practice in Singapore, and Anuj Shah from its M&A and private client practice, and Jean Muller, a director of strategy, will be resident representatives along with Cariappa. Senior partner Haigreve Khaitan described the opening as “a significant milestone” in the firm’s expansion.
TRILEGAL BOOSTS CORPORATE SPHERE
Pranav Sharma and Mallika Chopra joined Trilegal’s banking and finance practice at its Mumbai office on 22 September. Both had previously been partners at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, where Sharma had been a co-head of banking.
Trilegal also recently announced the promotion of three counsel to its partnership: Brajendu Bhaskar in its capital markets group; Prasan Dhar in its banking and finance group; and Sanjam Arora in its corporate practice.
PHOENIX ADDS TWO PARTNERS
Harsh Arora, a banking and finance specialist, and Jatin Arora, an indirect tax specialist, have joined Phoenix Legal in its New Delhi and Mumbai offices, respectively.
Jatin Arora will lead the firm’s indirect tax practice. He has 22 years of experience in indirect tax including GST, customs, excise, service tax and VAT law. He has worked with firms such as PwC and Deloitte. Previously at HSA Associates, Harsh Arora has 18 years of experience and focuses on banking and finance, restructuring, infrastructure and public-private partnerships. Phoenix Legal has 13 partners and 60 lawyers.
