Hylands Law Firm and Woo Kwan Lee & Lo (WKLL) have set up an associate powerhouse in the Qianhai Free Trade Zone in Shenzhen known as Hylandslaw-WKLL (Qianhai) Law Firm.
Hylands said this association would not only assist Chinese clients in expanding to international markets and attract foreign investment into China, it would accelerate the firm’s overall global strategy.
Last year, Hylands acquired the US-based Law Offices of Andrew H. Dai, making it the San Francisco branch and the firm’s second overseas office.
WKLL’s managing partner Carmelo Lee leads 78 legal professionals, including 25 partners. He is also a member of the HKEX’s chairmen pool.
Last year, WKLL’s partners Ma Ho Fai, Brian Leung, Candy Lau and Jackson Yip joined Hylands after obtaining qualifications to practise in the Greater Bay Area.
In 2022, the Qianhai authority announced RMB2 million (USD270,000) in financial support for associated operations established by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau firms. Legal organisations employing lawyers from Hong Kong and Macau would receive RMB30,000 as an incentive per professional per year.
