Herbert Smith Freehills will close its Seoul branch after 10 years, while the office head and disputes partner Mike McClure is set to relocate to London and Seoul-based partner Dana Kim will move to Hong Kong.

McClure, who has been appointed King’s Counsel in England and Wales in January, and Kim will lead the newly established Korea group, in addition to global and Asia energy leaders Lewis McDonald in London and Hilary Lau in Hong Kong.

“We are establishing a new global group, drawing on the deep Korean expertise that has always existed across the firm’s network, with members visiting Korea as required by clients and matters,” Kim told Asia Business Law Journal.

“We will continue to support Korean clients on complex international disputes and transactions, building on our reputation in the energy and resources, construction, private capital, IP, and tech sectors.”
