Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) will close its Kuala Lumpur office by the end of April 2024, as the firm adapts to changing client needs in the region, but will continue serving Malaysian clients.

Asia managing partner Graeme Preston acknowledged that client demands have evolved significantly since the Kuala Lumpur office’s establishment in 2017, with many requirements now being efficiently met by the other seven offices across Southeast Asia, China, Japan and the firm’s international network.

Preston said, “We remain committed to our clients in Malaysia, as an important part of our plans for Asia to contribute 20% of firm revenue by 2027, and will continue to support them with international legal expertise and insight.”

Herbert Smith Freehills currently operates from 24 offices worldwide, providing clients access to top-tier legal services across various sectors, including energy, private capital, resources, infrastructure, technology and financial services.
