Holman Fenwick Willan (HFW) launches its third China office in the Qianhai district, Shenzhen, following the opening of the Hong Kong and Shanghai branches.
The Ministry of Justice has approved five law firms to practice in the Greater Bay Area, with HFW as the only UK-based one.
It is also the third international law firm in Qianhai district, adding to the presence of Brinks Gilson & Lione and Fish & Richardson.
Many lawyers from HFW’s Hong Kong office passed the GBA legal qualification examination in 2022 and are licensed to practice in nine municipalities of mainland China. Justin Sun, the aviation finance partner of its Hong Kong branch, will act as the chief representative of the Qianhai office.
The mainland policy has allowed local and international law firms to establish joint operations in Qianhai district this year, following the Shanghai and Hainan free-trade zones.
