Indonesian litigator Hillman Sembiring has joined Oentoeng Suria & Partners, an associated office of Ashurst in Jakarta, as a partner in the dispute resolution practice.

Sembiring joins from his own firm Hillman Sembiring Advocates, which he established in 2016 after five years working at HHP, a member firm of Baker McKenzie in Indonesia. Following Sembiring’s departure, his firm closed.

As a dispute resolution lawyer with nearly 20 years of experience, Sembiring has assisted international and domestic clients with complex litigation, including bribery and corruption investigations and disputes, banking, securities and financial services disputes, and general corporate and commercial disputes.

Ashurst’s Asia-Pacific head of dispute resolution Jeremy Chenoweth in Brisbane was delighted to welcome Hillman.

“Many of our clients have very significant operations and interests within Indonesia and there is a strong need for a high-calibre dispute resolution practitioner to support them,” said Chenoweth.
