The Indian government announced in September that it would appeal to parliament for the removal of a high court judge in Calcutta.
The move comes after Judge Soumitra Sen was accused of misappropriating more than Rs5 million (US$100,000) of public money between 1993 and 1995.
The Chief Justice of India (CJI), KG Balakrishnan, recommended the government initiate “proceedings for removal” of Justice Sen after he refused to resign or take voluntary retirement.
