Global Law Office has brought onboard partner Wang Yi, the former head of Merits & Tree Law Offices’ corporate and compliance team, to its Shenzhen branch, while his former colleague Zhao Yanming has also joined as a partner.
Both formerly part of Merits & Tree’s data compliance team, the pair specialise in consulting clients on digital economy, data security and artificial intelligence matters.
Wang is experienced in advising companies in the financial, medical, internet and automotive sectors on compliance matters. He has been advising government branches such as the Shenzhen Municipal Local Financial Supervision and Administration Bureau, and the Authority of Qianhai. He was a senior partner at China Commercial Law Firm before founding the data compliance team at Merits & Tree.
Zhao is well-versed on advising the internet, AI and energy sectors. He has represented investment companies in conducting data compliance due diligence, as well as offering data compliance advice to enterprises considering going public.
Over the years, Zhao has obtained professional qualifications such as the certification for cybersecurity competence, awarded by China’s National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team. He is also a certified data management professional for designated area migration agreements.
