More than 100 general counsel and partners from leading law firms shared insights at the sixth Annual Meet and International Summit of the Alliance for Corporate Counsel and Company Secretaries (ACoS) India.

The event was held on 15 July at Hotel Eros, New Delhi, with the theme of global business and international laws. The general counsel and partners spoke about issues relevant to both sides of the legal profession.

“More emphasis should be given to the role of general counsel in the country as they play a major role in adding value and giving strategic advice,” said Parvesh Kheterpal, the founder of ACoS India, during his opening address.

“The in-house counsel profession should be regulated and receive statutory recognition, which will strengthen not only the legal profession as a whole but also the businesses which general counsel advise,” said Kheterpal, who is also head of legal and company secretary at the Feedback Infra Group.

He added that he wanted ACoS to be a collaborative community rather than an individual-led platform.

The inaugural session was also attended by Raghu CV, group general counsel at Samvardhana Motherson Group; Manish Lamba, general counsel at DLF Cyber City Developers; and Raka Roy, partner at Galadari Advocates & Legal Consultants.

Discussions were also held on different topics, including alternative dispute resolution and third-party funding; white-collar crime investigations; crypto, blockchain and cyber security challenges; six years of the insolvency and bankruptcy code; environmental, social and governance and new age general counsel. The technical and panel discussions were then followed by interactive Q&A rounds.

This year, ACoS is expanding its reach in the country with the launch of new chapters in four cities, including Bengaluru and Mumbai. The alliance is committed to all in-house counsels exchanging views, sharing knowledge and helping young lawyers who are new to the profession. It always endeavours to discuss important developments in law, legislation, regulations and judicial announcements.
