In light of the covid-19 pandemic and the nationwide lockdown bringing holiday travel to a standstill, the government came out with a unique proposition enabling employees to obtain a cash payment equivalent to their leave travel compensation (LTC), provided they spend three times the amount on white goods.
On 12 October, the centre introduced an LTC cash voucher scheme for its employees enabling them to purchase goods and services in lieu of the tax-exempt portion of the LTC, from the date of announcement until 31 March 2021. Central government employees get LTC in a block of four years, whereby air or rail fare, according to one’s pay scale or entitlement, is reimbursed. They are also entitled to leave encashment of 10 days.
