Diljeet Titus, managing partner of Delhi-based law firm Titus & Co, and Lalit Bhasin, managing partner of Bhasin & Co and president of the Society of Indian Law Firms, were awarded National Law Day Awards, 2007, by the president of India, Pratibha Devisingh Patil at a ceremony in November.
Titus’s award was for “unique achievements and leadership in the practice of corporate and commercial laws” while Bhasin’s was in recognition of his contribution to bar affairs. The honour was also conferred on former chief justice of India, AS Anand, and Bar Council of India chairman Gopakumar Nair.
“I am privileged to receive this award and am honoured that our practice merits this most distinguished recognition,” Titus told India Business Law Journal. “This award is not for me alone but also for our partners and associates at Titus & Co whose professionalism has made our firm what it is today.”
The president also conferred the International Council of Jurists Awards, 2007, on the chief justice of England and Wales, Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers; Fernando Pombo, president of the International Bar Association; Rosalyn Higgins, president of the International Court of Justice; and HR Bhardwaj, the Indian law minister.
National Law Day has been celebrated in India every November since 1949.
