UK-based business law firm Beachcroft announced on 15 January that it is establishing a knowledge-sharing partnership with Indian firm Khaitan Jayaker Sud & Vohra (KJSV), which has offices in New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. The tie-up is the latest in a series of well-publicized connections that have been announced between Indian and foreign law firms. Foreign firms view such partnerships as an opportunity to establish a competitive advantage in India in anticipation of eventual liberalization of the country’s legal market.

The two firms have signed a memorandum of understanding that will see them share knowledge and bring an international perspective to their services. Knowledge transfer will initially be facilitated by the year-long secondment of two KJSV advocates to Beachcroft’s London office, after which the advocates will seek dual qualification as English solicitors.

The agreement is one of several steps Beachcroft is taking to strengthen its position beyond UK shores. The firm is opening a new office in Dublin in March and is also building a network of partner law firms in Europe.
